About HopeSpring
Wisconsin has no shortage of web designers. What's harder to find is one who works on a single platform and has done it enough times to know where the platform bites.
That's the whole premise here. HopeSpring Digital is run by Caresa, a Squarespace specialist with 7+ years on the platform, 200+ launches behind her, and Squarespace Circle membership. We turn down WordPress work. We're based in Minnesota, close enough to the Wisconsin line that the Twin Cities and Eau Claire are a similar drive, and every project runs remotely regardless, so a client in Racine gets the same process as one in Hudson.
Three things worth knowing before you read further:
You work with the person building it. Caresa runs discovery through launch personally. No account manager relaying messages, no junior designer doing the actual work while someone senior takes the calls.
The pieces are built together, not stacked. Design, copy, page structure, and analytics get planned as one system. Most sites are designed first and have SEO bolted on afterward, which is why so many of them look fine and produce nothing.
We give back 2% of revenue. Not profit, revenue. It's a small commitment and we're not going to build a marketing campaign around it, but it's real and it shapes who we like working with.

WHY WISCONSIN BUSINESSES CHOOSE SQUARESPACE
Most people who contact us have already half decided. They've heard WordPress is powerful and also that it breaks at inconvenient times. They tried Wix and found it hard to leave. Someone mentioned Squarespace, it looked clean, and they want to know whether that instinct was right.
For a small business in Wisconsin, it usually is. Here's what you're actually getting:
-
Hosting, security certificates, uptime, and software updates are handled by Squarespace. There is no plugin to update and nothing that quietly breaks because two extensions disagreed overnight. For an owner in Appleton with enough on their plate, that absence of upkeep is most of the value.
-
Layouts are responsive from the start. That matters more every year, because most people finding you are doing it on a phone, often in a parking lot, often deciding within seconds.
-
Editable page titles and meta descriptions, automatic sitemaps, SSL, clean URLs, and image compression are native. That's a genuine head start. It is also not the finish line, which is what the next section is about.
-
Change your hours, swap a photo, add a service. No developer, no support ticket, no waiting three days. Or hand it back to us. Both are fine.
-
Your account, your domain, your content, registered to you. You pay Squarespace directly for hosting. If we parted ways tomorrow you would lose nothing and nothing would break. That is not universally true in this business and it's worth asking any designer about before you sign.
*Where it isn't the answer: large-catalog ecommerce, complex custom applications, and membership systems with intricate permissions belong elsewhere. If that's your project we'll say so on the call rather than force it.
We don’t skip the important stuff
Plenty of Wisconsin agencies will build you a Squarespace site. Most of them build on WordPress the rest of the week, and this is what they do when a client asks for it by name. After 200+ builds on one platform, here's what we treat as non-negotiable, and what we most often find missing when we audit somebody else's work.
1. Keyword research before any design work
Your site's structure should follow how people actually search for what you do, not how a template library happened to be organized. That research also tells you what you're up against, which varies enormously inside this state. Competing for a service term in Madison is a different job from competing for the same term in Wausau, and the page structure should reflect which one you're in. We map keywords to pages before a single design decision gets made, so the architecture is built to rank rather than retrofitted later.
2. Copy written by a person who understood the business
Most agency copy reads like it was generated by someone who skimmed your homepage once. Ours is meant to sound like how you'd describe the work to a neighbor at a bonfire. Plainspoken, specific, no filler. It also has to be structured so search engines can follow it, which mostly means real heading hierarchy rather than text that's just been made bigger. Squarespace will happily let you set four H1s on one page, and search engines read that the way you'd read a book with four titles and no chapters.
3. Speed treated as a build requirement, not a post-launch cleanup
A page that takes four seconds to appear on a phone has lost roughly a third of its visitors before the headline renders, and most of the people finding a Wisconsin service business are on a phone. The usual culprit is images. Squarespace compresses what you upload, but it can't rescue a 6MB photo straight off a camera roll. We resize and convert to WebP before anything goes up, keep custom code minimal, and skip the autoplay hero video that costs more than it earns.
4. Local search and AI search both accounted for
Showing up in Google Maps for your own city is usually worth more than ranking nationally, and AI-generated answers from ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity are pulling traffic away from traditional results faster than most agencies have adjusted to. Both depend heavily on structured data, a hidden block of code that tells machines plainly what your business is, where it operates, and what it sells. Squarespace generates very little of this on its own. We write it by hand for every page. It's missing from the large majority of Squarespace sites we look at, and it's one of the cheapest advantages available.
5. A handoff that actually leaves you capable
When the site goes live you should understand how it works. Every project ends with a recorded walkthrough of your specific site, a written resource guide, and a check-in thirty days later once you've had a chance to break something. The goal is that you can update your own hours or swap a photo without calling anyone. If you'd rather hand it back to us, that's fine too, but it should be a preference rather than a dependency.

Who We Build for
Four kinds of owner make up most of our work. If one sounds like you, we're probably a fit.
The Modern Tradesman
Plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, contractors, landscapers, garage door companies, septic, tree services. The work is steady and the website isn't earning its keep. You can be the best outfit in Waukesha and still lose the call to whoever's site was clearer at nine at night.
The Brand-Builder
Salons, boutiques, wellness studios, restaurants, breweries, nonprofits, campgrounds, retailers. How it looks is part of what you sell, and your site should convert as well as it photographs.
The Personal Brand
Coaches, consultants, therapists, realtors. Your site is often the first real impression a serious prospect forms. It should match the quality of the work and make the next step obvious.
The Expander
Established businesses with a site already, looking for measurable growth from it. You're past launch and ready for the compounding kind of work.
How a Project Actually Runs
Six steps, sharpened across 200+ builds. It exists to remove the back-and-forth that makes most web projects miserable.
Businesses We've Helped Grow
More than 200 Squarespace sites built. Seven-plus years on one platform. The businesses we work with aren't chasing whatever looks current. They want a site that earns trust from a stranger, appears when someone searches their service and their city, and makes contact easy.
We work across Wisconsin, remotely, statewide. The markets we see most:
Milwaukee metro including Waukesha, Wauwatosa, Brookfield, and Racine Madison and Dane County including Middleton, Sun Prairie, and Fitchburg Green Bay and the Fox Valley including Appleton, Oshkosh, Neenah, and De Pere Eau Claire and western Wisconsin including Chippewa Falls, Menomonie, and Hudson Kenosha and the Illinois border La Crosse, Wausau, Stevens Point, Sheboygan, and Janesville Door County, Wisconsin Dells, Lake Geneva, and the Northwoods
How hard you have to work to rank varies a lot across this state. Milwaukee and Madison are crowded, and there structured data, page architecture, and Google Business Profile work all carry real weight. Across much of the rest of Wisconsin your competition is a template site nobody has touched in years, and simply having a properly built one is most of the advantage. We'll tell you which you're facing, including when the answer is that you need less than you thought.
We keep our portfolio private to protect our clients privacy.

WANT A SQUARESPACE SITE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS?
Most owners we talk to have been through one of two things. Either they tried to build it themselves and ran out of weekends, or they hired someone who vanished after launch and left nothing measurable behind. There's a version in between: a specialist who builds it correctly, explains what they did, and cares whether it produces anything.
Free 30-minute discovery call. Honest, no pressure.
We'll review whatever you have now and tell you what we'd actually change.
If we're not the right fit, we'll say so.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
If you want to run your own site without maintaining it, Squarespace. If you need deep customization, a large catalog, or complex integrations, WordPress. Most Wisconsin small businesses are the first case and get sold the second. We'll give you a straight answer on the call even when it sends you elsewhere.
-
Yes. The platform is not the ceiling for a small business site. What limits most Squarespace sites is that nobody wrote structured data, nobody planned page architecture around real searches, and nobody built proper location pages. Those are build decisions, not platform limits.
-
Not for the work, which runs remotely either way, through video calls and file uploads. We're a Minnesota-registered business serving clients across the country and we're upfront about that.
-
Yes, and for service businesses it's usually where the ranking gains come from. We work out which cities justify a real page based on your service radius, then build them properly. The duplicate-and-swap-the-city-name approach doesn't work anymore and hasn't for years.
-
Usually. Targeted fixes, layout cleanup, and content refreshes are hourly at $100. A full overhaul gets scoped as a new build. The discovery call sorts out which, and sometimes the answer is that you need less than you assumed.
-
No. Retainers are optional and month to month. Plenty of clients launch and never add one. Others come back a year later. Nothing about the build depends on it.
