About HopeSpring
South Dakota businesses have a smaller pool of web designers to choose from than most states, which cuts both directions. Less noise to sort through, and also fewer people who specialize in anything particular.
HopeSpring Digital is run by Caresa, a Squarespace specialist with 7+ years on the platform, more than 200 launches, and Squarespace Circle membership. We turn down WordPress work, which sounds limiting until you consider what it means to have solved the same platform's problems two hundred times. We're a Minnesota studio working across the Dakotas and nationally, and every project is remote, so a business in Rapid City gets the same process as one in Sioux Falls.
Three things worth knowing:
The person who sells it builds it. Caresa runs every project from first call to launch. There's no account manager in the middle and no junior designer doing the work while someone else takes the meetings.
It's designed as one system. Structure, copy, design, and analytics get planned together rather than sequentially. Sites that were designed first and optimized afterward tend to look fine and produce nothing, which is a pattern worth recognizing before you pay for it.
2% of revenue goes back out. Revenue, not profit. Small commitment, genuinely made, and it tends to attract the kind of client we work well with.

WHY SOUTH DAKOTA BUSINESSES CHOOSE SQUARESPACE
Most people who contact us have already been through some version of the same research. WordPress can do anything but seems to require someone on call. Wix looked easy but hard to leave. Squarespace came up and seemed reasonable, and they want confirmation before committing.
For most South Dakota small businesses, it holds up:
-
Hosting, security, SSL, and updates are handled by the platform. No plugins to keep current, nothing breaking overnight because two extensions stopped agreeing. If you're running a business in Brookings and your IT plan is "call my nephew," this is the relevant feature.
-
Layouts are responsive from the start. Most people finding a South Dakota service business are on a phone, often somewhere with imperfect signal, deciding in seconds.
-
Editable titles and meta descriptions, automatic sitemaps, SSL, clean URLs, and image compression are native. A genuine head start, and not the whole job. The next section covers the gap.
-
Change hours, swap a photo, add a service. No developer, no ticket, no waiting. Or hand it back to us. It should be a preference, not a dependency.
-
Your account, your domain, your content, in your name. You pay Squarespace directly. If we parted ways tomorrow nothing breaks and you lose nothing. Worth asking any designer how that works with them, because the answers differ.
*Where it isn't right: large-catalog ecommerce, complex custom applications, and layered membership systems belong elsewhere. If that's your project we'll say so rather than force it.
FIVE THINGS MOST SQUARESPACE BUILDS SKIP (AND WE DON'T)
Most designers who'll build you a Squarespace site build other things the rest of the week. That shows up in five predictable places, and these are what we most often find missing when we look at somebody else's work.
1. Keyword research before any design happens
Structure should follow how people search, not how a template arranged itself. In South Dakota the useful finding is often that the obvious keyword has almost no volume while a longer, more specific phrase has all of it. Statewide terms here are thin by population, so the wins usually sit in city plus service combinations, and sometimes in terms tied to the seasonal and tourism economy rather than to a trade. We map that before design starts, and occasionally the research says your money is in one page you weren't planning to build.
2. Copy written by someone who understood the business
Most agency copy reads like it was assembled from the last three sites they built. Ours should sound like you explaining the work across a fence. Specific, plain, no filler. It also needs organizing so a search engine can follow it, which comes down to headings that describe real sections and internal links that go somewhere useful rather than keywords scattered through paragraphs.
3. Speed treated as a requirement, not a cleanup task
A page that takes four seconds to load on a phone loses a large share of its visitors before the headline arrives. This matters more in a state with meaningful rural coverage, where the connection is often not what it is downtown. The usual culprit is images uploaded straight off a phone at full resolution. Squarespace compresses what it gets, but it can't fix a 6MB file. We resize and convert before anything goes up, and we keep custom code minimal.
4. Local and AI search both accounted for
Ranking in Google Maps for your own area is generally worth more than anything national, and answers from ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity are taking traffic from traditional results faster than most designers have adjusted to. Both depend heavily on structured data, a block of code invisible to visitors that states plainly what the business is, where it works, and what it sells. Squarespace produces very little of it. We write it by hand for every page. In a market this size, being the one business with it properly configured is a real and cheap advantage.
5. A handoff that leaves you capable
At launch you should understand your own site. Every project ends with a walkthrough recorded on your actual site rather than a generic tutorial, a written guide, and a check-in at thirty days once you've had time to try something. The point is that you're never waiting on anyone to update your own hours. Plenty of clients hand it back to us anyway, which is fine, as long as it's a choice.

Who We Build for
Four kinds of owner account for most of our work. If one of these is recognizable, we're probably a fit.
The Modern Tradesman
Plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, contractors, landscapers, garage door companies, septic, tree services, excavation. The work is steady and the website adds nothing to it. You can be the best outfit in Sioux Falls and lose the job to whoever's site was easier to use at nine at night.
The Brand-Builder
Salons, boutiques, studios, restaurants, breweries, nonprofits, retailers, lodges. Appearance is part of the product, and the site should convert as well as it photographs.
The Personal Brand
Coaches, consultants, therapists, realtors, agents. For a serious prospect your site is usually the first real impression, and it should match the standard of the work.
The Expander
Established businesses that already have a site and want measurable return. Past launch, ready for the work that compounds.
How a Project Actually Runs
Six steps, refined across 200+ builds, designed to remove the drift that makes most web projects unpleasant.
Businesses We've Helped Grow
More than 200 Squarespace sites. Seven-plus years on one platform. The businesses we work with aren't chasing what's fashionable. They want a site that earns a stranger's trust, shows up when someone searches their service and their town, and makes contact easy.
We work across South Dakota, remotely, statewide:
Sioux Falls and the surrounding area including Brandon, Harrisburg, and Tea; Rapid City and the Black Hills including Spearfish, Sturgis, Belle Fourche, and Custer; Aberdeen, Watertown, and the northeast; Brookings and the I-29 corridor; Mitchell, Yankton, Huron, and Pierre
South Dakota is one of the more winnable search markets in the country for a well-built site, and that's worth saying plainly. Sioux Falls has some real competition in a few categories. Across most of the rest of the state, your competition is a site nobody has touched in years or a Facebook page standing in for one. That doesn't mean the work is trivial, but it does mean the gap between a properly built site and the local average is unusually wide here, and it closes faster than in a crowded metro. We'll tell you honestly what your category looks like, including when the answer is that you need less than you expected.
We keep our portfolio private to protect our clients privacy.

WANT A SQUARESPACE SITE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS?
Most owners we talk to arrive one of two ways. Either they tried building it themselves and ran out of evenings, or they paid someone who went quiet after launch and left nothing measurable behind. There's a version in between: someone who builds it properly, explains what was done, and cares whether it produces anything.
Free 30-minute discovery call. Honest, no pressure.
We'll go through what you have now and tell you what we'd actually change.
If we're not the right fit, we'll say so and point you toward someone who is.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
If you want to run your own site without maintaining it, Squarespace. If you need deep customization, a large catalog, or complex integrations, WordPress. Most South Dakota small businesses are the first case. We'll give you a straight answer even when it sends you elsewhere.
-
Often more than people expect, because the bar is lower. Fewer competitors means fewer businesses doing the basics properly, so a well-structured site with real local optimization can reach the top of results faster and stay there longer than it would in a large metro. The counterweight is that total search volume is smaller, so the goal is capturing a high share of a modest number of searches rather than a small share of a large one. Whether that math works depends on what a customer is worth to you, and it's a reasonable thing to work through on the call.
-
Not for the work, which is remote either way. We're a Minnesota-registered business serving clients across the country and we say so plainly rather than implying a local office.
-
Yes, and for service businesses covering a wide radius it's usually where the gains come from. We work out which places justify a real page based on your actual service area, then build them properly. Duplicating a page and swapping the town name hasn't worked for years.
-
Usually. Targeted fixes and cleanup are hourly at $100. A full overhaul gets scoped as a new build. The call sorts out which, and often the answer is that you need less than you assumed.
-
No. Retainers are optional and month to month. Plenty of clients launch and never add one.
