About HopeSpring
Illinois has no shortage of web design firms, particularly around Chicago. What's harder to find is someone who works on one platform exclusively and has done it often enough to know its habits.
That's the entire idea here. HopeSpring Digital is run by Caresa, a Squarespace specialist with 7+ years on the platform, more than 200 launches, and Squarespace Circle membership. We turn down WordPress work. We're a Minnesota studio and every project runs remotely, which means a business in Peoria gets exactly the same process and the same person as one in Evanston.
Three things worth knowing up front:
The person on the call builds the site. Caresa handles discovery through launch personally. If you've worked with a larger firm before, you may recognize the pattern where the senior person sells the project and someone else you never meet does the work. That doesn't happen here.
Nothing gets bolted on afterward. Design, copy, page structure, and analytics are planned together as one thing. Most sites get designed first with SEO added later, which is a fair explanation for why so many attractive sites generate nothing.
2% of revenue goes back out. Revenue, not profit. It's a modest commitment and we don't intend to build a campaign around it, but it's real and it shapes the kind of client we work well with.

WHY ILLINOIS BUSINESSES CHOOSE SQUARESPACE
Most people who reach out have already done some narrowing. They've been told WordPress can do anything, and separately that it needs constant attention. They've looked at Wix and worried about being stuck there. Squarespace came up, it seemed sensible, and they want to know whether that read was right.
For most Illinois small businesses it is. Here's what you're actually buying:
-
Hosting, SSL, uptime, and updates are Squarespace's problem, not yours. There's no plugin stack to keep current and nothing that stops working overnight because two extensions disagreed. For an owner in Naperville with a full calendar, that missing chore list is a large share of the value.
-
Layouts are responsive from the start. Most people finding an Illinois service business are doing it on a phone, frequently while standing somewhere inconvenient, and deciding fast.
-
Editable titles and meta descriptions, automatic sitemaps, SSL, clean URLs, and image compression come standard. That's a real advantage over a bare install of something else. It's also the starting line rather than the finish, which the next section covers.
-
Update hours, replace a photo, add a service. No developer, no ticket queue, no three-day wait. Or leave it to us. Either is fine, and it should be a choice rather than a trap.
-
Your account, your domain, your content, in your name. You pay Squarespace directly. If we parted ways tomorrow nothing would break and you'd lose nothing. Ask any designer you're considering how that works with them, because the answers vary more than you'd expect.
*Where Squarespace isn't the right call: large-catalog ecommerce, complex custom applications, and membership systems with layered permissions belong somewhere else. If that's your project we'll tell you on the call rather than take the work and make it fit.
Important parts to a successful Site we don’t skip
Any number of Illinois firms will build you a Squarespace site. For most of them it's an occasional job rather than the thing they do, and that shows up in five predictable places. These are what we consider baseline, and what we most reliably find missing when we audit somebody else's build.
1. Keyword research runs before a single design decision
Site structure should follow the way people actually search, not the order a template happened to arrange things in. The research also tells you what you're actually up against, and in Illinois that varies more than almost anywhere. Competing for a service term across Chicago is a fundamentally different problem from competing for the same term in Rockford or Springfield, and in Chicago proper the useful searches are often neighborhood-level rather than city-level. Which of those situations you're in should determine your page structure. We map that before anything gets designed.
2. Copy that a person wrote after understanding the business
A lot of agency copy reads like someone skimmed your old homepage and reached for the nearest synonym. Ours should sound like you explaining the work to somebody at a neighbor's cookout. Plain, specific, no padding. It also has to be organized so search engines can follow the argument, which comes down to page titles, meta descriptions, and internal links that make sense rather than a checklist of keywords sprinkled through the paragraphs. Writing for the reader and writing for search stopped being different jobs some time ago.
3. Speed as something the build has to meet, not fix later
A page taking four seconds to appear on a phone has lost a large share of its visitors before the headline arrives. The usual causes are oversized images and accumulated third-party scripts. That second one hits businesses that have run paid ads especially hard, because tracking pixels, chat widgets, popup tools, and review embeds pile up over the years and nobody ever removes the ones that stopped being used. We audit what's actually loading, keep custom code minimal, and size images properly before they go up rather than trusting the platform to rescue a photo straight off a camera roll.
4. Local search and AI search treated as real channels
Ranking in Google Maps for the area you actually serve is generally worth more than ranking nationally, and answers generated by ChatGPT, Google's AI Overviews, and Perplexity are taking traffic from traditional results faster than most firms have adapted to. Both lean heavily on structured data, which is a block of code, invisible to visitors, stating plainly what the business is, where it works, and what it sells. Squarespace produces very little of this by itself. We write it by hand for every page and connect it to your Google Business Profile. It's absent from most Squarespace sites we examine, which makes it one of the cheaper advantages still available.
5. A handoff that leaves you holding the keys
At launch you should understand your own site. Every project closes with a walkthrough recorded on your actual site rather than a generic tutorial, a written resource guide, and a check-in at thirty days once you've had time to poke at it. The purpose is that you're never stuck waiting on anyone to change your own phone number. Plenty of clients hand maintenance back to us anyway, and that's fine, but it should be because it's easier and not because you have no other option.

Who We Build for
Four kinds of owner account for most of our work. If one of these is recognizable, we're probably a fit.
The Modern Tradesman
Plumbers, electricians, HVAC, roofers, contractors, landscapers, garage door companies, septic, tree services. The work is there and the website contributes nothing to it. You can be the best crew in Joliet and still lose the job to whoever's site was easier to use at ten at night.
The Brand-Builder
Salons, boutiques, studios, restaurants, breweries, nonprofits, retailers. Appearance is part of the product, and the site should convert as reliably as it photographs.
The Personal Brand
Coaches, consultants, therapists, realtors. For most serious prospects your site is the first real impression. It should match the standard of the work and make the next step unmistakable.
The Expander
Established businesses that already have a site and want measurable return from it. Past the launch stage, ready for the work that compounds.
How a Project Actually Runs
Six steps, refined across 200+ builds, designed to remove the drift that makes most web projects unpleasant.
Businesses We've Helped Grow
More than 200 Squarespace sites. Seven-plus years on a single platform. The businesses we work with aren't chasing whatever's currently fashionable. They want a site that earns a stranger's trust, appears when someone searches their service and their area, and makes getting in touch simple.
We work throughout Illinois, remotely, statewide. The markets we see most:
Chicago including Evanston, Oak Park, Skokie, Cicero, and Berwyn The western and northwestern suburbs including Naperville, Aurora, Schaumburg, Elgin, Arlington Heights, and Des Plaines Joliet and the southwest suburbs including Orland Park and Tinley Park Rockford and northern Illinois Peoria, Bloomington, Normal, and central Illinois Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign-Urbana The Quad Cities including Moline and Rock Island
Illinois is really two search markets in one state, and it's worth being honest about which one you're in. Chicago and the inner suburbs are genuinely competitive, and there structured data, page architecture, and Google Business Profile work all have to be done properly to make any difference. Across much of the rest of the state, competition is a template site that hasn't been touched in years, and having a well-built one is most of the advantage on its own. We'll tell you which you're facing on the call, including when the honest answer is that you need less work than you expected.
We keep our portfolio private to protect our clients privacy.

WANT A SQUARESPACE SITE THAT ACTUALLY WORKS?
Most owners we talk to arrive from one of two directions. Either they tried building it themselves and ran out of evenings, or they hired a firm that went quiet after launch and left nothing measurable behind. There's a version in between: someone who builds it properly, explains what was done and why, and cares whether it produces anything.
Free 30-minute discovery call. Honest, no pressure.
We'll go through whatever you have now and tell you what we'd actually change.
If we're not the right fit, we'll say so and point you toward someone who is.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
If you want to run your own site without maintaining it, Squarespace. If you need deep customization, a large catalog, or complicated integrations, WordPress. Most Illinois small businesses are the first case and get quoted for the second. We'll give you a direct answer on the call even when it sends you somewhere else.
-
In the right categories, yes, though it takes more work than it does downstate and it usually starts at the neighborhood or suburb level rather than the whole metro. What actually limits most Squarespace sites is that nobody wrote structured data, nobody planned the page structure around real searches, and nobody built proper location pages. Those are build decisions rather than platform ceilings. We'll be straight with you about what's realistic for your category and area.
-
Not for the work, which is remote in either case, run through video calls and file uploads. We're a Minnesota-registered business serving clients nationally and we say so plainly rather than implying a local office.
-
Yes, and for service businesses that's usually where the ranking gains come from. We work out which places justify a real page based on your service radius, then build them properly. Duplicating one page and swapping the city name hasn't worked for years and can actively hurt you.
-
Usually. Targeted fixes, layout cleanup, and content refreshes are hourly at $100. A full overhaul gets scoped as a new build. The discovery call sorts out which, and fairly often the answer is that you need less than you assumed.
-
No. Retainers are optional and month to month. Plenty of clients launch and never add one. Some come back a year later. Nothing about the build depends on it.
